Tayla Shields

Teaches: Broadway Jazz, Jazz, Tap

Tayla started dancing at the age of 4, thanks to the Wiggles who proced to be the main inspiration for Tayla wanting to dance at such a young age. (Her parents were rather surprised when she asked to go to her first dance class, as they had never had anything to do with dance!) Her very first dance costume was a very cute yellow silk fairy dress — an item she still has in the dress up box which comes out when the younger cousins come over. Her favourite dance costume, however, was one of the showgirl costumes she wore which was sourced from overseas. Plenty of feathers, sequins and an extremely large headpiece.

She has since trained in a number of different dance genres including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Broadway, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Acrobatics. She quickly developed a strong passion for musical theatre and broadway, and excelled in jazz and tap dance styles. Growing up, Tayla completed examinations in the RAD syllabus and Glen Wood tap.  She competed in a number of competitions nationally and internationally and travelled to China and Malaysia to represent Australia. Tayla has been in a number of local productions including Candy Man and The Great Pretenders in 2015 and 2016.

Tayla’s go-to for a healthy snack is a delicious raw caramel slice — great way to curb those sweet cravings!
