ROLE: Technical Teacher
Dance Experience
Kartyja started dancing when she was just 3 years old, and she will never forget her first dance class and how exciting it was to put on her first pair of ballet shoes. Since then, she has trained in a wide range of styles, from the classics like Ballet, to others like Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, and Hip Hop.
Teaching Experience
I have been teaching since 2015.
Q&A with Kartyja
What got you into teaching?
After I got injured during my time dancing I thought, “What’s the next best thing… TEACHING!” After that, I have loved it ever since.
What styles of dance do you teach?
I teach Junior Ballet, Junior Jazz, Jazz, and Contemporary
What is your favourite group to teach?
My favourite age group to teach is 8-12. At this age, students are so motivated to learn and I feel this is where the most growth happens.
What is your style of teaching?
I would say I have got a multidimensional style of teaching. I mainly like to create a calm and fun learning environment for my students. However, when concert time kicks in, that’s when I start to get a bit more rigorous.
What inspires you when it comes to choreographing?
Usually the song inspires me. I listen closely to the music and just let things flow from there.
What do you love most about dance?
The thing I love most about dancing is how much it can bring someone out of their shell. It’s such an inspiring form of art that I think allows all individuals to shine.
What do you love most about teaching?
I have to say, seeing children improve is my favourite thing about teaching. Whether it’s one of my little ones finally getting their skips or one of my older students acing their pirouette, the growth period is my favourite!
What are your top tips for students to get the most out of class?
Top tips: practise like you’ve never won, perform like you’ve never lost!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
My favourite guilty pleasure is grabbing the perfect dinner and watching Netflix in bed!
