Q&A with Mia
What got you into teaching?
I had just been into surgery after suffering from a non-dance related injury, and it essentially stopped my career as a dancer. But I wanted to help kids grow and learn all the important skills and technique dancers must have to help to follow their dreams and remain resilient in challenging situations.
What styles of dance do you teach?
I am currently teaching Jazz and Hip Hop.
What is your favourite group to teach?
Ranging from 4 to 8-year-olds.
What is your style of teaching?
I always encourage and aim for my classes to be enjoyable and fun, but it’s important to me that the students do learn all they need to become great dancers so there is a level of attention to detail as well.
What inspires you when it comes to choreographing?
The children in my classes, knowing they enjoy coming to me each week for the short time they do makes it so easy to choreograph dances that suit the students and the skills they are taught throughout the term/year.
What do you love most about dance?
The ability to be creative and imaginative, and the encouragement to strive for your dreams and achieve your goals.
What do you love most about teaching?
I love watching students grow and seeing them being excited to come to class and follow their dreams, no matter how wild they may be.
What are your top tips for students to get the most out of class?
Pay attention to the instructions of the teacher, practise, practise, practise, and enjoy yourselves!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Bingeing a Netflix show with lots of snacks and friends or family.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
My family
Tell us about your personal fashion style.
I love basic fashion, but also love dressing up for occasions — I am a massive girly girl when it comes to this!!
What’s your favourite quote?
“Work hard in silence and let your success be the noise.”
Where would you go on your dream holiday?
Travel all through Europe.
