Dance Experience

I started dancing when I was 7 and have not stopped since. I did RAD Ballet up to Grade 7 and also completed up to my Advanced 1 exam. I completed both New Zealand syllabuses in Jazz and Contemporary and did Solo Seal exams for both styles as well as competed in our National scholarship competition. Aside from these, I did a lot of competitive dance around the country with my dance school. In my final years of dance, I attended three dance schools and picked up Lyrical, Barefoot, and Hip Hop dance.

Teaching Experience

I first started teaching ballet when I was 13-15 and then started up again last year in 2019 at Dance Central.

Q&A with Morgan

What got you into teaching?

I love being around children and enjoy teaching them what I love with the hope one day they will love it as I do

What styles of dance do you teach?

I currently just teach Ballet and Blueberries, and assist with Acrobatics, However, in the past, I have also taught Contemporary, Jazz and Lyrical dance.

What is your favourite group to teach?

That’s tricky. Perhaps the younger kids, as they just have so much untapped potential and eagerness to learn. However, it is really nice teaching the teenagers as it is fun to challenge their capabilities and their technical expertise.

What is your style of teaching?

I definitely approach teaching with a more calm and friendly nature, especially with the younger kids.

What inspires you when it comes to choreographing?

The music and the emotion it produces.

What do you love most about dance?

I love getting to feel free and in-the-moment. I find it’s a way to just forget the rest of the world for a short while.

What do you love most about teaching?

I love watching my students progress throughout the year and get more confident in their dancing ability.

What are your top tips for students to get the most out of class?

Honestly, just to give everything a go and try your best. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work the first time; it’s all about learning and having fun.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Definitely chocolate-covered strawberries — I love them!

Who has been the biggest influence on your life?

My Parents! They have encouraged and supported me in everything I have done and are always there for me 🙂

Tell us about your personal fashion style.

I am not sure, honestly. I love wearing summery dresses and skirts but am also happy in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or sweater. I love dressing up, though.

What’s your favourite quote?

“What if I fall? Oh, my darling, What if you fly?”

Where would you go on your dream holiday?

I would love to go backpacking through Europe as there are so many places I have yet to visit and many more I would love to see again.
