ROLE: Hip Hop Teacher
I have been in crew since 2017 but before that, I’ve just been taking classes of different styles through different stages of my life.
I have been teaching since 2019.
Q&A with Sam
What got you into teaching?
The opportunity to become a crew leader eventually led to the opportunity to teach as well.
What styles of dance do you teach?
Hip Hop and Crew
What is your favourite group to teach?
12-16 years old
What is your style of teaching?
I like to be a fun and enthusiastic teacher that can make students laugh and have fun, along with being one that they hopefully find approachable and mature at the same time.
What inspires you when it comes to choreographing?
I like to take inspiration from the people around me along with the specific song I’m using and past things I learnt.
What do you love most about dance?
I love that it allows you to become a different person and it can be used as a way to tell a story and emotions without having to speak or write about them.
What do you love most about teaching?
I love seeing the students grow and have fun, and I love the relationships that you form with them.
What are your top tips for students to get the most out of class?
My top tips would be to never be afraid or think you aren’t good enough because you are and dance is a place in which you are meant to be your true self. Embrace freestyling because everyone has their own unique style and without freestyling you may not find what yours is.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I love Oreo McFlurries with chocolate fudge! And love a good TV show that has anything to do with magic and fantasy.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
One of the biggest influences in my life would be Katy Perry.
