Adult

Dance Central offers classes suitable to Young and Mature adults across a variety of levels and styles. Class levelling and types are as follows.

 

A

Adult Ballet

Want to plié and pirouette and learn the form of a ballet dancer? This fun and challenging class will teach you just that, along with the basics of ballet from arm & feet positions to coveted ballet moves so you learn to plié, tendu, battement, ronds de jambe, arabesque, pirouette and sauté.

Classes focus on technique in an enjoyable way. Each week we build on the previous week to teach you the basics of classical ballet, while combining strength, conditioning, form, flexibility, coordination and rhythm.

Recommended: Ballet shoes (Jazz shoes accepted)
New to Dance: Bare feet

B

Barre Body (F)

Combine Ballet Barre work with Yoga and Pilates conditioning to tone your whole body (think long and lean like a ballet dancer!), while developing balance, strength and flexibility.

This class is designed to be a fitness and toning workout to help you reach your goals so you can be in the body you want to be! This class is suitable for beginners through to experienced.

Recommended: Bare feet

B

Bounce (F)

Bounce is a dance cardio trampolining class that is low impact on joints and provides a high-intensity cardio, euphoric sweat sesh! Classes are conducted on your own mini trampoline (maximum weight for the specialised trampolines is 150 kg).

Recommended: Wear supportive sneakers and bring a water bottle and sweat towel

Broadway

This class has a strong technique-based warm up and concentrates on the choreographic styles of Bob Fosse & other great choreographers of Broadway musicals such as Chicago, Chorus Line, West Side Story as well as modern musicals like Hair Spray.

Chair

Chair Class came about purely by chance when our incredibly talented Thea Kabadanis introduced chairs as a prop into her Heels classes. Ever since then, we’ve had requests for more chair dances! If you love Heels, you will love Chair: an empowering, feminine style of dance that is sexy and designed to make you feel more confident.

Recommended: Sneakers, barefoot, or if you’re a pro at dancing in those heels, bring them along!
New to Dance: Bare feet, sneakers

C

Club Cardio!

Combination of circuit, strength, dance and cardio workouts. Catered to all skill levels in fitness and dance. Carefully thought out music tracks to boost enjoyment for all.

Recommended: Sneakers

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is based on classical foundations with an edgy and earthy vibe. This class combines strong centre and precision leg work with an ease and fluidity in the torso. A great class to gain technique, strength and flexibility.

Recommended: Foot thong or Jazz shoes (Ballet shoes accepted)
New to Dance: Bare feet

T

Commercial

Commercial is what you’d expect to see in a dance music video clip! It’s Street Jazz combined with Hip Hop. It’s an ideal class for those looking to bring some sass into your dance repertoire! It’s a fun class and a great workout.

Recommended: Bare feet or sneakers

H

Heels

Our heels classes focus on improving confidence, building strength, having fun and embracing your ‘Sasha Fierce’.  There is only one way to know if this class is for you and that’s to get in there in your favourite pair of high heels and dance with us! Routines and technique are built upon throughout the term. This class is suitable for all abilities and skill levels — all you will need is an awesome attitude.

Hip Hop

Straight from the Bronx of New York this ever-evolving style is one of our most popular classes. A soulful expression of movement including dance hall, krump, popping, locking, waacking, voguing and tutting movements as well as urban choreography. Used by artists such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Missy Elliott. Hip Hop is all about developing your own style!

Recommended for all: Sneakers (not runners, non-grip)

J

Jazz

Jazz is a dynamic and well-rounded genre of dance that combines classic ballet technique with upbeat rhythm and movement. It can take on characteristics of many popular dance styles including modern, lyrical, commercial, funk, Latin fusion, etc. This class covers foundational jazz steps, strength, and technique, including kick, leap and turn progressions, for every experience level.

Students will get their whole bodies moving to improve their stamina, mobility and flexibility while focussing on technique, rhythm, and style!

Recommended for all: Jazz shoes (Ballet shoes accepted).

New to dance: Bare feet, Sneakers (not runners, non-grip).

L

Limbering (F)

This class is designed especially for dancers who desire maximum core strength and flexibility. With current advances in limbering and stretch techniques this class is a must for all dancers. Limbering is a fantastic option for non-dancers wanting to achieve optimum flexibility for great body and muscle maintenance. and recovery, reducing the risk of injuries and muscular pains.

Recommended for all: Bare feet

S

Sass Jazz

Sass Jazz combines the technical elements of Jazz with some serious boss bish vibes! Channel your inner JLo backup dancer and prepare to sweat. No dance experience needed!

Recommended for all: Bare feet

T

Tap

A technical tap class with a seriously modern edge of funky percussive beats and rhythms. If you love Happy Feet, Tap Dogs, Hot Shoe Shuffle, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly you will love this class!

Recommended: Tap shoes (Note: End of Year Show requires black shoes.)
Trial with: court shoes or boots (smooth sole, non-grip)
