#goturback | The Dance Central Initiative

Dance Central’s very own anti-bullying campaign

Empowering a new generation of youth.

Bullying is something we’ve all encountered, whether at school, at home, at sports, or at the workplace. And we don’t always recognise it for what it is at first glance, although its impact can be far reaching and long lasting.

#goturback is a Dance Central initiative designed to help prevent the act of bullying and mitigate acts of bullying within our community and beyond. It’s an initiative dedicated both to those who have been targets of bullying, and to those who commit acts of bullying.

The initiative promotes a philosophy of empowering young individuals — particularly those aged 12 to 17 years — to become more self-aware and to take a mindful approach towards others. We believe that “treating others how you would like to be treated” is at the core of having another person’s back… and that often, it makes all the difference.

At DC, we see themes like self-awareness, self belief, respect for others, and teamwork continually surface through the power of dance. We believe we are in a unique position to help youth overcome bullying behaviour using our long experience of character and team building through dance.

DKC are our youth ambassadors for #goturback. Learn more about the launch of #goturback.

Good Sports Member and ACT Runner-up Club of the Year

We’re proud to be a Good Sports Member and honoured to have been recognised as the ACT Runner-up Club of the Year!

Being part of the Good Sports program allows us to promote a healthy and inclusive environment within our community. Through this initiative, we aim to encourage alcohol-free and drug-free classrooms, providing a safe and supportive atmosphere for all members, and promoting positive role modelling.

As a Good Sports Member, we have access to a wealth of resources and support to help us achieve our goals.

Proudly supporting

Fearless Women

Dance Central is thrilled to support Fearless Women, an organisation dedicated to empowering women and girls to lead fearless lives. Through our partnership, we’ve provided safe and supported dance classes free-of-charge, as well as access to a platform to raise awareness. With these efforts, we promote gender equality, foster leadership skills, and provide opportunities for personal and even professional growth.

Together, we strive to create a world where every woman and girl feels empowered to pursue their dreams and overcome obstacles.

If, in any case, you find yourself (or somebody you know) needing assistance and resources concerning domestic and women’s rights affairs, please find the link to Fearless Women below.

Support for Ronald McDonald House Charity

We believe in giving back to our community and supporting those in need. That’s why we proudly support Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC), a not-for-profit organisation that provides vital support to families with sick children. Close families of ours have benefited greatly from their initiative, and so we would like to contribute to furthering their efforts.

For our last donation, we’ve sponsored ten nights (an equivalent of $1500) of accommodation for families in need, ensuring they have a comfortable and supportive place to stay during difficult times. Additionally, we’ve contributed to provide entertainment free-of-charge to their annual fundraiser event, helping to raise funds for their important work.

As a matter of fact, our amazing Mercury Troupe will be coming back to perform next year!

We’re honoured to support RMHC and make a difference in the lives of families facing challenging circumstances.

Anaphylactic-Safe in our Blueberries Class

At Dance Central, we understand the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all children, including those with severe allergies. Some people may have certain sensitivities to food or materials that a simple touch may cause them to go into a life-threatening shock.

That’s why we offer an anaphylactic-safe Blueberries class specifically designed for children aged 2-4 years with severe allergies. We also encourage the participation of parents under similar circumstances–particularly those who wish to take part in activities with their children, but find the usual environment too risky to do so!

We are currently in the works for our policy on joining, so make sure to have a little read if you’d like to participate!

Our dedicated instructors aim to provide a safe and supportive experience for children with allergies, ensuring their well-being and peace of mind during class. We prioritise the safety and comfort of all our students and are committed to providing a positive and inclusive experience for everyone.

If you or your child have severe allergies that make enjoying activities difficult, know this initiative is for you.

A Safe and Inclusive Environment for Delayed Learning and Development

Dance Central is dedicated to providing an inclusive environment where every child feels welcome and supported, regardless of learning or developmental challenges.

We understand that every child is unique and may have different needs, which is why we strive to create a supportive and understanding atmospheres for all. Whether your child has learning or other developmental delays, we’re here to listen, support, and accommodate their needs to ensure they can fully participate and enjoy their first experiences with dance.

Our team and teachers are trained to work with children of all abilities and are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

If you feel your child can benefit from the extra mile of care from our Dance Central team, please freely and comfortably approach our staff and we’ll be more than happy to talk to you about how best to tackle your child’s participation in class in confidence!
