High Tea and the Inspiring: what happened!

High Tea and the Inspiring: what happened!
June 23, 2017 Dance Central
On Saturday 17 June, Dance Central hosted a very special High Tea in a very special top-secret location as a fundraiser for DKC. Almost 40 gorgeous supporters came to tea and had an absolute ball!

The High Tea event was also the official launchpad of #goturback, a Dance Central initiative to combat bullying by empowering our youth to stand tall for themselves and to stand up for others.

The afternoon started with delish savoury dishes, courtesy of The Palette Café. Julie then introduced #goturback, and how speaker Angie Ford first inspired the idea after she workshopped with DKC before the HHI competition. Julie was so impressed by the huge change she saw in the team, and how much stronger their relationships with one another became. She could see that every one now had absolute confidence in each another, and that each member could trust their team to be 100% behind them. It has completely completely lifted their game. Angie then spoke about the importance of building up the people around you, how great teams thrive on trust, and how a great support network in turn helps the individual.

Helen Roe, author of GirlTribes, gave an insightful talk about bullying among teens, where it most frequently happens, and how bullying affects kids. Social media can be a difficult terrain to navigate for adults as it is, but for today’s youth the bullying they face online can be particularly cruel and hard to shake. And with most teen bullying taking place through social media, we need to gear up our kids with the self-awareness, courage, and know-how to thrive in such an environment. Helen also spoke about the importance of self-belief as the core muscle to work against self doubt and external negativity.

Our staff member Tiana really appreciated the talk. “In the end,” she surmised, “it’s about how you don’t have to listen to the things people say about you. The biggest voice inside your head should be yours.”

We also soaked in some live entertainment by Lani Wagner, and thoroughly enjoyed a live auction on some very choice prizes courtesy of artist Reg Mombossa, Clear Complexions, CRYOSPA Canberra, Ainslie Hair Inn and Elite Physique. We rounded off the talks with a cake-cutting ceremony to officially launch #goturback, and then DKC treated us to a performance of one of their routines.

All in all a fab day!

We really couldn’t have pulled off such a delightful afternoon without these wonderful sponsor; thanks to them, every party element was divine.

A little peek at the exquisite floral transformation of our secret location for the launch of #goturback. Breathtakingly gorgeous, much like the woman who arranged them. Happy 20th anniversary to The Palette Cafe! The launch of #goturback was a sensation, thanks to Meg and the amazing team at The Palette Cafe. The canapés were delicious but these Raspberry shortbreads right here were to die for! Look no further for your next catered event. Photo courtesy of Mik Foto
